The Fairly Gannett first flew in 1949. Originally designed for the Royal Navy’s anti-submarine role.
The aircraft has two turboprop engines mounted in the nose driving contra rotating propellers.
Our aircraft started life in the anti-submarine role in 1957. It was damaged in an accident in 1958 and was stored until 1961, when it was regraded to ECM6 and used for electronic counter measure operations.
It served with 831 NAS (Naval Air Station) at Culdrose until 1966 ending its active service. Used for ground training, it was eventually sold to a museum in 1978 and stored outside for many years.
It was acquired in a very neglected state by the Solway Aviation Museum, and arrived on site in 2020.
